At Quantum Recruiters we focus intently on providing talent to leading employers throughout the Pacific Northwest. We are currently seeking an Operations Manager for Mid Valley Metals, a well-established leader in the precision sheet metal fabrication industry, located in beautiful Eugene, Oregon.
As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing processes related to all production activities at the facility. This position manages the operations department to include responsibility for approximately 40 team members, with direct control over safety, quality control, production schedule, and shipping/receiving. In this role, you will meet quality and schedule requirements, while ensuring that all financial metrics are met or exceeded and ensure that all production activities are conducted safely and within regulatory compliance. You will provide training & coaching to the team to elevate the skill sets of team members and improve the overall efficiency of the departments while employing lean management principles as well as current manufacturing techniques to help create processes which drive optimum efficiency.
Area of Responsibility
This position is responsible for the direct management of a production team in the following functional areas: Material Receiving, Processing, Fabrication, Safety, Quality Control and Shipping.
•Responsible for managing and directing production activities to ensure operations meet its goals and objectives while maintaining a high level of employee engagement and satisfaction.
•Be a change agent using Lean techniques to drive continuous improvement.
•Provide strategic direction and leadership for department objectives while meeting customer expectations for service and quality.
•Maintain a workplace free of environmental and safety hazards while implementing continuous improvement for the financial and operational success of the business.
•Continually and simultaneously improve productivity, quality, safety, and communication while establishing an atmosphere of innovation and mutual respect.
•Maintain and enhance an innovative & collaborate environment which includes a high degree of empowerment and teamwork.
•Develop business matrix to measure department health to meet goals/objectives.
•Develop and implement quality process to reduce scrap and zero defects in the workplace to reduce cost.
•Capacity planning and utilization of people and equipment to reduce costs and increase output of product through the department.
•Maintain safe plant environment and compliance with all regulations.
•Work with other departments within the business on better utilization of equipment to meet goals/objectives.
•Maintain accountability of financial measurements and goals throughout the department.
•Foster a continuous improvement model.
•Engage and collaborate with additional managers in the business to problem solve and provide leadership.
•Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a production manufacturing environment (preferably in precision sheet metal fabrication) with knowledge and understanding of materials, scheduling, quality, and operations functions; must have successfully held management role previously .
•Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
•Strong team building and facilitation skills required to work with various departments and peers.
Education and Training
•Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Operations Management, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or like degree required.
•Training in Lean Manufacturing (preferred).
