2023 Hendricks Park Forest Seasonal Job Description
Purpose:
This position supports city staff in meeting the goals of the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. The primary purpose and task of this position is invasive species management, to be completed by the seasonal employee independently and in cooperation with other City and temporary staff. This is a part time role, working approximately 24 hours per week, April through June.
Goals:
- Work with staff to implement plans for invasive species control in the forest
- Conduct invasive species removal in the forest independently and in small groups.
- Support staff in achieving other goals as laid out in the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan
Tasks may include:
- Invasive species control of targeted species, manually or by machine
- Survey extent of invasive species populations of target invasives and input data into data collection applications
- Coordinate with HP Volunteer Coordinator and Ridgeline Ecologist on weekly/monthly work plans and create regular reports of volunteer and individual project progress
Skills desired:
- Knowledge of safety principles as relevant to outdoor physical work
- Familiar with Willamette Valley forest native and non-native species
- Experience with best practices of invasive species removal, both manual and mechanical
- Ability to work independently
- Previous experience with GIS-mapping software
Required for this position:
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Available to work a regular schedule of up to 24 hours per week, April 2023 through June 2023
